BIOGRAPHY

Nono Gigsta aka Noëmie Vermoesen is a transdisciplinary artist working at the intersection between music, writing and sustainability. Born in Belgium and raised in France, Nono is currently based in Berlin. She hosts the regular show “Fictions” on Cashmere Radio, organizes do-it-together events with her partner Minor Science, and is a resident DJ at party series Room 4 Resistance. Nono regularly shares thoughts on slow touring, sustainability and mobility in zines or via her newsletter. At the beginning of 2023, Nono completed her PhD thesis in Comparative Literature in which she analyzed and compared early Electronic Music Press. Nono doesn’t show any images of her face online.

PROJECT

During her residency at Nawat Fes, Nono will be working on her own production and exploring Moroccan music. She will be hosting a radio show dedicated to music and sounds in Fes. Nono is interested in nomadism and mobility-related issues in traditional and contemporary Moroccan culture. Finally, she is open to conversations and hearing different perspectives on climate change and environmental justice. In Morocco, Nono plans to share the art of DJing with women, hosting music mixing workshops in Fes and other cities. This would also be an opportunity to reflect on the possibilities of grounded travel to, from and within Morocco and to document these experiences via her newsletter: https://nonogigsta.substack.com. She will be traveling by train, boat and bus between Berlin and Fes.
