Eugenie Cha

Writer & Activist

BIOGRAPHY

Eugenie Cha is a writer, activist, and multi-disciplinary researcher who writes about displacement, structural violence, and the tensions between home, space, and memory. She is a contributing member of the Level Ground art collective in Los Angeles, California and was a resident at the Arteles Creative Center in Finland. She lives and works in New York City.

PROJECT

During her residency at Nawat Fes, Eugenie will explore the relationship between architecture, society, and social change during times of increasing environmental degradation and xenophobia. A core element driving her work is examining the ways communities subvert the abuse of power and how such acts and gestures transform or (re)shape a space. Does a space shape the person or does the person shape the space? Drawing from Fes’s rich history in architecture, oral tradition, and migration, Eugenie will use text, photographs, images, and other media to navigate the city’s impact on those living within, outside, and/or on its margins, as well as the many ways life histories shape the making of a city.
