BIOGRAPHY
Passepartout Duo is a music group comprised of pianist Nicoletta Favari and percussionist Christopher Salvito. Making music that escapes categorization, the duo’s ongoing travel around the world informs the multi-disciplinary collaborations, instrumental compositions, and evocative music videos that constitute their body of work. The musical events they create focus on reconsidering the modalities in which people listen to and connect with music, and are cast from a wide range of aesthetics and disciplines.
PROJECT
“Tiny Chronicler” is a project focused on a unique electronic musical device realized as an open-source coding project and a hardware musical interface. Created by Marta Forsberg and Andreas Dzialocha, the machine travels with the musicians of Passepartout Duo to transform collected stories into original multimedia compositions and poetic collages. After interpreting materials, the “Tiny Chronicler” prints out the music as simplified scores that can be performed by Passepartout Duo and other musicians. The Tiny Chronicler will be the protagonist of a day-long artistic intervention in the medina of Fes, where passersby will be invited to join the process. In the context of a shared special lunch in the medina, thematic conversations and personal exchanges will be recorded and collected as source material for the "Tiny Chronicler." A subsequent performance will see this source material transformed into a multidisciplinary reinterpretation. In preparation for the final event, the musicians will be investigating the city and reflecting on ideas of information, language translation, communication, and the value of ‘official’ and ‘unofficial’ archives. By collecting opinions in the streets and at the communal setting of a table, the duo can extract a core sample of today’s society. The project aims to give agency to everyday people’s stories and lives in an inclusive and engaging way through an artistic approach, in the context of the Fez medina.
